Dr Rachel Gow
Clinic Founder

My journey into nutrition, ADHD, and brain health did not begin in a clinic or a laboratory, it began at home, as a mother trying to understand and support her child. When I became a first-time mum to my bright, curious, and inquisitive son, I knew very little about neurodevelopmental differences or the role that nutrition plays in brain function.

At the time, I was working in the property sector in London, building a career I enjoyed while doing everything I could to create a secure and happy future for us both. As a young, first-time, mother, I worked hard to balance work, parenting, and the everyday demands of life.

A life changing decision

Over time, it became clear that my son was struggling. He found it difficult to settle, showed signs of inattentiveness and impulsivity, and began to experience challenges in the classroom. After a long and often overwhelming process involving educational psychologists, child psychiatrists, and clinical assessments, he was diagnosed with ADHD and Dyslexia. Like many families I now work with, we are a neurodivergent family. That lived experience has shaped not only my academic and clinical path, but also the way I approach care, placing empathy, respect, and practical support at the centre of everything we do at Nutritious Minds Clinic.

Those diagnoses opened a world that was entirely unfamiliar to me. I suddenly found myself navigating special educational needs systems, clinical terminology, research papers, and conflicting advice, often feeling lost, isolated, and unsure of where to turn next. Despite the support around us, there was no clear, joined-up guidance, and I knew instinctively that something had to change. So I made a life-changing decision.

My return to education

I LEFT MY CAREER AND RETURNED TO EDUCATION TO STUDY PSYCHOLOGY AND NUTRITION, DRIVEN BY A DETERMINATION TO UNDERSTAND MY SON’S NEURODEVELOPMENTAL DIFFERENCES, AND, IN THE PROCESS, MANY OTHER CHILDREN LIKE HIM

Fourteen years later, that decision led me through multiple degrees and specialist training in ADHD, neuropsychology, and nutritional neuroscience. Along the way, I learned something that transformed both my personal and professional path: that nutrients play a direct and meaningful role in brain health, activity, and function. By making informed changes to my son’s diet, we saw improvements in his mood, focus, and ability to engage with learning. These experiences were not just anecdotal, they were supported by a growing body of scientific evidence that continues to shape my work today.

If you are a parent reading this, I want you to know that I understand your journey. If you are an adult who has struggled for years with undiagnosed symptoms and are beginning to wonder whether you may be neurodivergent, you are not alone and you are in the right place.
